Pennard Community Council Approves Climate Action Plan 2020

20, Nov, 2019

Following The Council's decision to declare a Climate and Ecological Emergency in May this year, the Council have worked with members of the community over the past six months to produce a Climate Action Plan for 2020.

The draft plan was presented to the November meeting of Full Council and agreed. The plan sets out ambitious target for action by the Council to become Carbon-neutral by the end of 2022 and for the Council to work with residents, businesses and community organisations to reduce the overall community footprint too.

The plan addresses areas such as biodiversity, food and growing, transport and energy and runs from April 2020 - March 2021. One of the commitments made in the plan is for the Council to divest the employee pension plan from fossil fuels. We are pleased to announce this commitment was also approved at the November meeting, in advance of the official start date of the action plan.

The Pennard Climate Action Plan will be available to download from this website in due course and will also be made available in hard copy at Pennard Library and via our Clerk. There will also be a pledge card, for every resident who wishes to have one, for residents to state what changes they have already made and which they pledge to aim for in future.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those residents who joined us to produce this plan. We aim to hold a public meeting in the New Year in order to share our aspirations for a carbon-neutral Pennard.
